Yohimbine is an indolalkylamine alkaloid used as a fat burner, mydriatic and in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. A member of the alpha-2-adrenergic class of alkaloids, it blocks presynaptic alpha-2 adrenergic receptors. Its action on peripheral blood vessels is similar to that of reserpine, although weaker and of shorter duration.

Yohimbine is often used during cutting cycles and, due to its alpha-2-adrenergic receptor blocking properties, has a pronounced lipolytic effect: when beta receptors are excited by adrenalin (or its mimetics), fat is destroyed, and when alpha receptors are excited, the opposite effect is observed: inhibition of adrenalin release and accumulation of fat in adipose deposits. By blocking alpha receptors, yohimbine allows fat to break down freely, releasing energy. As a fat burner, yohimbine is often used alongside clenbuterol because of its pronounced synergistic effects.
There are other reasons for blocking alpha2-adrenergic receptors. This reduces blood pressure, which often rises with the use of fat burners, as well as increasing blood flow to adipose tissue, thus speeding up the transport of fatty acids to the site of destruction.
